In Memoriam -- Rozanne Black

Equine Canada would like to extend their condolences to the family and friends of Rozanne Black who passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, following a lengthy illness. Black was an Equine Canada dressage judge, coach and a FEI Eventing Judge who was highly regarded by the organization and among her peers.

Black was an avid horsewoman with a great eye for horses. One of her better horses, Marcus, jumped clear around Badminton with a rider with a broken arm. She showed hunters in England and was a well-known hunter judge.  She was fearless riding to hounds and on one trip to Ireland she jumped the "unjumpable bank" to become a local legend.

When she met her husband Ian she became more involved in eventing, and became a dressage judge. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1976 where they opened the Lammont Training Centre. As her career progressed she became a Canadian national dressage judge and FEI International 'I' level eventing judge. Together with her husband, they ran horse trials and cross country trials at their farm. Black was an active member of the Ontario Horse Trials Board of Directors. She is survived by her husband Ian and stepson Stuart Black, a former member of the Canadian Eventing Team.

Ms. Black will be remembered for her passion, commitment and contributions to furthering excellence in equestrian sport in Canada.
